Good News for Russians and Venezuelans’ Travelers
It is good news of for Russian and Venezuelan visitors to make easy the traveling between two countries a new Russian-Venezuelan agreement scrapping visa requirements recently entered into force. According to the agreement Russian and Venezuelan citizen can visit each others’ countries for up to 90 days without having to apply for visas. A deputy director of Russian foreign ministry’s Latin American department Sergei Akopov said “This greatly eases interaction between the countries and mutual travel of citizens, including businessmen… It simplifies the establishment of contacts as well as humanitarian, student and tourist exchanges.”
The deal was signed 26, November 2008 in Caracas during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s official visit to the South American country. The respective official said traveler turnover between the both countries was ‘not strong’. They hope the agreement could notably increase the amount of Russians visiting Venezuela. It is notable that Venezuela has become the fifth state in Latin America to scrap visa requirements for Russians, following Peru, Cuba, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic. Many want similar agreements with Brazil and Argentina as well. On the other hand, the Colombian foreign ministry said few days ago it was planning to unilaterally introduce a visa-free agreement for Russia. They also said it would enter into force within 30 days. So, the Russians can easily visit Colombia after approve the law.
