American Tourism to Egypt Up 17% in 2008

egyptIn spite of the sustained strife in the Middle East reignited by the escalated anxiety between Israel and Palestine, Egypt’s tourism is expected to raise further this year 2009. The Egyptians are so much hopeful on this sector, because they are seeing the increases of tourist and most of them are American. And American tourism to Egypt confirmed an impressive raise of arrivals in 2008 over 2007 according to Egypt tourism minister Zoheir Garranah. Minister said

“We had 319,000 thousand visitors from the US last year, representing a 17 percent increase.”

He also added,

Egypt is optimistic that despite the challenging economic climate, this growth will continue because we have an excellent, diverse, high quality tourism product that offers Americans great value for the dollar.

Hon. Garranah added that Egypt will be prepared for business when the travel industry bounces back,

We have modernized our airports, ports, roads and we are now working on our railway networks. Regarding hotel investment, Egypt has been very successful in attracting international investment in tourism. It is interesting to note that the US has the largest market share among foreign hotel management companies. By the end of 2008, we had 211,000 rooms with 156,000 under construction, 70 percent of which are at Egypt’s coastal resorts.
