Occupancy Fall Average 10% in Europe

Europe are now struggling to flow their tourism sector as almost European hotel bookings dropped by nearly 10% in the first quarter of the current year. A tourism conference confirmed recently low rates of residence at European hotels. The conference was held in Prague.

Room bookings declined by 18% in Prague and Budapest fell by 20%. On the other hand, the world’s most attractive and visited city Paris dipped by nearly 5%. Somewhere else likes Portugal and Spain, hotel occupancy dipped by between 10% and 20%.

As a result, it caused job losses up to now for about 60,000 workers. The meeting of the EUCR said the recent economic crisis enforced room sellers to introduce new strategies (EUCR for European Union’s Committee of the Regions).

Non-stop Flight from Delhi to Bangkok

Hong Kong’s leading flagship carrier Cathay Pacific Airways (CPA) announced the launch of a daily non-stop flight from Delhi to Bangkok from March 30. The decision came out as Thailand exempting the tourist visa fee for three months from 5 March. Bangkok gets one of the highest inflows of travelers. It is considered as a short getaway destination. Recently Thai administration gives Indian citizens visa on arrival for a stay not more than 15 days.

CPA’s general manager for India, Middle-East, Africa and Pakistan Tom Wright said “Bangkok is not new to us. It is well known how popular and affordable Bangkok is. We believe that there is untapped potential and this new route promises to serve the unmet needs.” He said it at a press conference in Delhi 6 March.

Duration of Journey:

The proposed Delhi-Bangkok non-stop flight will take only five-and-a-half hours.

Schedule Time:

It will leave New Delhi at 3.30 a.m. and reach Bangkok at 8.55 a.m. The airline will leave Bangkok at 5.25 p.m. and reach New Delhi at 7.45 p.m. (local time).

Current Flight:

Now the airline flies to Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, and Bangalore. They operate roughly 44 flights to those cities. They provide two daily flights from Delhi to Hong Kong and 10 flights per week from Mumbai.

The carrier intends to strengthen its cargo network as well. Wright said “We are looking at expanding our cargo business in India and we see a huge opportunity here.” However, it has deferred new plans for the construction of a new cargo terminal at the Hong Kong International Airport to get capacity expansion in line with current market demand.

Though the idea may be ridiculous to you but a growing number of American tourists are seeking travel insurance for fear that they lose their jobs just before a planned vacation. Chief executive of Squaremouth.com (a website) Chris Harvey said his company sold around 6,000 policies in February 2009.

The site compares travel insurance policies. CNN reported Friday the amount almost double the number sold in February 2008. Harvey said “February is shaping up to be the best month in our history, which is kind of strange,” he said. “What we think it is that although fewer people are traveling, much, much more of those are buying insurance.” He added the trend is likely the effect of vacationer becoming increasingly worried about layoffs owing to the economy.

On the other hand, director of operations for travel insurance provider CSA Travel Protection Bob Chambers travel insurance policies focused on layoffs have been gradually gaining in popularity since previous year. He said “Typically a vacation is your third biggest investment after your house and your car,” he added “You protect those investments. Why wouldn’t you protect this one?” The insurance companies hope more polices will be taken following months.
