Jurong BirdPark – World of Birds

Jurong BirdPark is World’s largest walk-in aviary. It was opened on 3, January, 1971 in the west end of Singapore. It is a famous tourist attraction in the country. The aviaries contains around 9,000 colorful birds of 600 species along with 29 endangered species for overwhelm you with their variety, shapes and sizes. It built on the western slope of Jurong Hill with an area of 20 hectares. This landscape park is situated within the Boon Lay Planning Area of the Jurong district and managed by  Wildlife Reserves Singapore. The success of the Park is attributed to its physical structure and construction which help to provide the original habitat of these winged creatures.

There are many bird shows and activities for entertaining the visitors along with get pleasure from the refreshing natural ambience of the park.

Birds n Buddies Show was known as “All Star Birdshow”; in this birdshow showcases have numerous of species of performing birds in an amazing single act. moreover highlighting the antics of artistic birds like the mimicking cockatoos are spectacular and funny for the children, the show is also give you a opportunity to observe the natural behavior of birds like Pelicans, Macaws, Flamingoes and Hornbills.

Birds of Prey Show makes a view in your mind that the park is a charming heaven of birds and colors. You can watch bird of prey such as Eagles, Hawks and Falcons with their fly in aerial loops and soar above the treetops. To observe astonishing birds of prey in action, catch the ‘Fuji World of Hawks’ show! Besides you will find out about falconry as these birds are put through their actions in a simulated hunt and get into the Panorail to seize a bird’s eye view of the entire park.

Newly introduced, African Wetlands exhibit will give you an imagination of balanced eco-system demonstration and it helps you to realize how nature, the birds and men co-exist in the earth. In here you may discover birds how can peacefully make a living by feeding on their natural preys.

One of the most beautiful areas is the World’s tallest (30m or 98ft) man-made waterfall named Jurong Falls with Waterfall Aviary with 1,500 free-flying birds from over 80 African species. A thunderstorm is simulated every day at noon in the waterfall. It is an enclosed sexton of the park with many small tropical birds. You may ride on the Panorail which runs through in the aviary to see the beauty of water fall. Two observation tower at the top of the waterfall offer visitors panoramic views of the Jurong Falls as well.

One corner of the park, there is a part packed of flightless birds such as Ostriches, Emus, Rheas and Cassowaries. They are the members of this exhibit.

You can see the major collection of Southeast Asian birds in the Southeast Asian Aviary. You will be overwhelmed with over 200 species with glimpses of exotic and endangered birds from Southeast Asia. There are large, central walk-in aviary and peripheral aviaries that house the more delicate or territorial birds. Daily at noon you can get experience a tropical thunderstorm is simulated, followed by cool, light drizzle to create an atmosphere.

Lory Loft is the world’s largest walk-in flight aviary for Lories (a native bird of Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea) with over 1,000 free-flying Lories. The entire ambience adheres to a rainforest vale of tropical Northern Australia. Visitors can offer the Lories a special nectar mix and the birds will flock to them. The Lory Loft offers you with a 360 degrees elevated view of the environs.

Penguin Expedition is place of attractive penguins. There are more than 200 penguins living in this exhibit with five species on exhibit are the Humboldt, the Rock hopper, the Macaroni, the Fairy and the majestic King Penguin. There is a window for you to see a vast panoramic view of these fascinating birds ‘flying’ underwater.

The World of Darkness is Asia’s first nocturnal bird house, opened in 1982. A system of reverse lighting enables day to be converted into night and vice-versa. There are 60 birds from 17 species. Here you get the taste of walking along a quiet star-lit jungle path at night, watching the birds in their natural habitats as their haunting calls beckon.

There is a glimpse of all 7 species of pelicans with the endangered Dalmatian pelican in Pelican Cove. There is a Stroll along the boardwalk that brings you up-close and personal to the birds for underwater viewing gallery for pelicans, diving for their fish during feeding time.

Parrot Paradise with more than 500 parrots from 110 species is a place where beautiful hand-painted murals with the natural vegetation will help you to come very close to the parrots’ natural habitats. The hollows of the parrots are very enjoyable for the children. They can play in the hollow and able to find out how the parrots view the rest of the earth from their nests in the hollows of tree trunks. There is an interpretative pavilion to notify the visitors exciting information on the exhibit panels.

The Riverine offers underwater view of more than 20 duck species, through an 11 meter wide glass-viewing gallery to see the diving and swimming birds in action from the visitors’ gallery. Clear recycled fresh water gives you an exclusive opportunity to see habitat featuring various species of waterfowl, fishes and turtles.

The Splash N Slide Station is a very attractive place for the children. It is a wet and dry play ground without the requisite splash pool. Its zero-water-depth concept makes it safe and hygienic and removes the possibilities of pool-based accidents and diseases

Panorail is the world’s only monorail system waiting for you. It is a10 minute air-conditioned ride which provide you a sweeping panorama of the Park’s most spectacular attractions from an aerial vantage point. There are three stations for Panorail such as Main station, Lory staition and Waterfall station. The Panorail pleasure ride has three cars, with a driver in the front car, and seats in each car. There is no room for standing in it.

There are some other fascinating tourist attractions those visitors without doubt would not want to ignore such Bird of Paradise, Jungle Jewels, Landscaped gardens, Royal Rumble, Swan Lake and Lunch with the Birds.

Visitors to Jurong BirdPark should have valid passports and visas to enter Singapore. You may go Singapore by air, by bus and by rail. Changi International Airport is vast, efficient, organized and connected with major city the rest of the world. It provides you all kind of modern facilities those a visitor would require.

Singapore is joined with Malaysia and the Mainland of Asia by two causeways. A Malaysian registered car or motorcycle is required to have a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) for driving in Singapore and each car is allowed five days of free entry per year. For others, need to pay a toll charge and fee for vehicle entry permit before entering Singapore.

Regular rail services connect Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Malacca (Malaysia). The rail service can be availed by the budget visitors coming via these countries.
